Visitors from near and far attended the first German Elite Auction organised by Osterhof stud and Sax Arabians during the last weekend of June. The auction was held in the beautiful countryside of Lake Chiem in south Germany.

On Friday evening the guests viewed the sale horses and were entertained with a colourful Brazil Samba Show. The auction commenced Saturday afternoon with a parade of stallions under a bright, burning sun. The stallions were Taman 1996 (Vympel x Takema by Kumir) and his half-brother Tahbal (Mamluk x Takema) currently racing in Germany, Ibn Narav (Narav Ibn Aswan x Nenija by Neman) and Nadir I (Neman x Neschi by Kilimanjaro) all owned by Sax Arabians. Osterhof presented their newcomer Padishah 1996 (Drug x Purga by Gwizd) a typey grey that has his sire's perfect top line as well as fantastic movement. Next was the gentle and beautiful young sire Narym 1994 (Balaton x Nemara by Neman) and he is on lease to Switzerland. It was a special moment when the European and World Champion Stallion Kubinec (Balaton x Kosmetika by Muscat) trotted into the arena. He has an impressive personality and is a great showman and can he move! He is the chief sire at Osterhof. There was a life-sized bronze statue of Kubinec in the middle of the presentation area and several stallions including Kubinec and Padishah tried to attack it!

The auction started with rather low prices, but improved when the highlighted horses appeared. The beautiful 17-year-old mare Narissa (Mashab x Neposa) was sold for DM 30,000 to her breeders Mrs and Mr. Garde-Ehlert from Germany and the magnificent grey mare Kuma 1983 (SR Nadom x Pechora) went to the Kossack Stud in the Netherlands for DM 27,000. The younger horses had their share of high-sellers including the lovely liver chestnut Krushinka 1996 (Kubinec x Menascha) and she sold for DM 90,00 and will travel to Oman. Show horses were in demand and Nijona 1996 (Vympel x Nijala) sold for DM 40,000 and Mira Nair 1997 (Kubinec x Qualified) for DM 37,000. Another eye-catcher was the beautiful yearling filly Dakota (Kubinec x Promessa) and she stole the hearts of several women bidders on the day! The price for this love-at-first-sight was DM 30,000. Among my personal favourites was Caracas (Kubinec x Nostalgia) a pretty 3-year-old bay colt that sold for DM 22,000 and the bay Matrioshka 1982 (Antey x Monogramma), a mare of older type but nevertheless a beauty with fantastic movement and she sold for DM 16,000. Everyone expected Koronec would be the high priced horse so it was a bit of a surprise when he sold for DM 130,000. But that same evening his new German owner was offered DM 200,000 by a buyer from Saudi Arabia, so the All Nations Cup and European Champion Koronec 1993 (Kubinec x Precious Me) was sold for the second time in one day! Of the 36 horses offered only 9 were not sold, not a bad result for the première of such a big event by two private breeders.
