My personal favourite was Martinika 1979 (Aswan x Monogramma by Knippel) a beautiful grey mare with elastic movement. I just love those Aswan daughters! She sold for US$ 16'500 to France. Another filly I liked was Glicinia 1995 (Negasimiy x Gatchina by Mashuk), sold for US$ 16'000.

One of the best mares in this sale was Krona 1995 (Nikel x Kaluga by Aswan) an elegant bay mare with fantastic movement. Krona was passed in when the bidding ceased at US$ 20'000 as the Russians wanted $ 40'000 for her! If you want to see all the results go to www.kossack.com.

The Kossack Stud also held their annual Silent Sale where the high-sellers were Anuits 1996 (Nuits St.Georges x Abhaziia by Balaton) at US$ 22'700, and Medeia 1992 (Drug x Marica by Naftalin) who sold for US$ 22'000.

Between the presentation of the sale horses we had the pleasure of viewing the Kossack Stud Stallion Parade which included the grey Piligrim 1991 (Gips x Postup by Suvenir), a promissing young stallion on lease from Tersk for two years. Next was the chestnut 1984 stallion Gomel (Peleng x Miest by Salon), Europe's most successful Dressage Arabian. Gomel moves like a dancer and his progeny are winners in the show ring and on the racetrack.

The bay 1986 Nikel (Kumir x Nutria by Topol) is a wonderful horse that I like very much. He is a past chief sire at Tersk and his offspring are already winners at halter and racing. The grey 1985 Drug (Prizrak x Karinka by Aswan) was European Champion in 1990, Racehorse of the Year 1990 and 1991. If you have ever seen Drug you will believe me when I say he is Walter Farley's Black Stallion in white! Drug has an imposing personality and his progeny are race winners. An example is his son Madiar (out of Martinika by Aswan), the 1997 Russian Derby Winner.

The other stallions were Prognoz (Gusar x Primeta by Muscat) a liver chestnut on lease from Germany and the grey Abitibi (Cheri Bibi x Jaffa du Berlais) a French stallion on lease.

All in all I spent two very interesting days at the Tersk Holland Sale.
